About

Afar is an online live-action fantasy series following a broken knight and a petulant wizard on their adventures across a realm on the brink of ultimate devastation. The series is brought to you by a team of talented, creative, award-winning individuals who are passionate about storytelling.

It draws inspiration from tabletop roleplaying games such as Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder, as well as popular fantasy sagas like Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. Throw in a healthy dollop of any Jim Henson production and a smattering of existential dread, and you have Afar.

Prescient, real-world issues have also influenced the story; particularly humanity’s response to incomprehensible, world-changing challenges such as climate change. We’ve watched in despair as successive governments across the world backtrack on environmental promises and demonise activists, whilst wealth inequality continues at an alarming pace. Afar tackles these problems with a fantastical spin to deliver a cautionary tale for our little blue world.

Levity is an essential ingredient too, and it would be a waste not to draw upon the comedic skills of the seasoned creatives behind the show. Producer and co-writer Joel Hopton, who’s written hours upon hours of audio comedy, does not hold back contributing painful belly laughs and brutal darkness to the realm in equal measure.

Afar stars Billy Treacy as Archibald Oakheart, a troubled knight who’s suffered terrible tragedy, and Daniel Sherratt as Wilkin, an irritable wizard looking to rebuild his life. They are joined by a diverse cast of absurdly gifted performers who are bringing the series to life with scheming loyal advisors, swashbuckling pirates, washed up bards and the smartest tardigrade in existence.

A combination of post-production VFX and practical effects will be utilised, with prosthetics from Yaz Tyson-Carlisle and Qachina McKeefery, and adorable puppets built by Basil Waite making their way onto the screen alongside beautiful matte paintings and CG models.

Executive Producers Billy Treacy, Daniel Sherratt and Jon Gransden are working together to creatively spearhead this epic, ambitious tale of love, loss, destiny and the apocalypse.
